A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A GHOST STORY
OPENS THIS WEEK AT TART!

Think you know Scrooge? Or Bob Cratchit? Or Tiny Tim? Think again. Tacoma Actors Repertory Theatre (TART) is pleased to bring Charles Dickens’ one-man version of the classic A Christmas Carol to the stage. A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story stars renowned character actor Byron Tidwell who narrates this classic holiday story using Dickens’ original script and performance notes. It’s A Christmas Carol with all its warmth, pathos, humor, and mystery, performed like you’ve never seen it before.

A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story opens November 19 and runs through December 20, 2015. Evening performances take place at 8 PM and matinees at 2 PM.

Performances take place at the Historic Tacoma Armory, 715 South 11th Street. Tickets are $25 general admission and $22.50 students/seniors with ID. Group discounts are also available. Tickets are available online at www.tacomarep.org, by phone at 253-353-2282 or at the door.

More About Byron Tidwell and the One-Man Christmas Carol

"You have never seen the like of me before!" says the Ghost of Christmas Present. No truer words describe this solo show. Charles Dickens performed this one-man show beginning in 1853, ten years after A Christmas Carol first appeared in print. He toured the U.K. and the U.S. and there is no doubt his book and his performances greatly influenced the way the Christmas holiday is now celebrated.

From the scary ghosts, the surprising humor, the delightful parties, the gossipy asides, and the heartfelt moments of tension and redemption, actor Byron Tidwell hits all the right notes with his captivating one-man performance. Critics praise Tidwell for his “cracking vitality and detail.” The Las Vegas Review Journal raves "It's time to come and discover 'A Christmas Carol' anew... In his marvelous one-man show, Byron Tidwell brought the story to life again." The TART performances of A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story are part of a West Coast tour that includes performances at California State University Palm Desert Campus.

Tidwell first performed the role of Charles Dickens with Tulsa Alliance for Classical Theatre in 1984. Tidwell's performance career has included extensive radio work from New York to L.A. (KUSC), His television appearances have been many, most notably as a guest on Chicago Hope. His theater work includes such leading roles as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Mr. Bumble in Oliver!, Starbuck in The Rainmaker, Will Rogers in Will Rogers at Home (for the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, Oklahoma), and many others. He just completed playing all the male roles in Kindertransport for the Jewish Repertory Theatre of Nevada. He will reprise his role as Mr. Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank for that same company next spring.

Opening Week Special -- $10 Tickets Through October 17

Performances Run Through November 8

TART is doing it again! Tacoma’s newest theater company is opening its second production in two weeks – the Tony and Obie Award-winning musical [title of show].

About the Musical
This charming and funny musical with a book by Hunter Bell and music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen is an autobiographical spin on what happens when two friends, aptly named Hunter and Jeff, have just three weeks to finish an original musical if they hope to enter it into the New York Musical Theater Festival. With the deadline looming, they enlist the help of their friends and fellow thespians, Susan and Heidi. When the show is selected for a festival production, the four friends find themselves with a hit on their hands – and all of the complications that come with it.When the show opened in New York, The New York Times called it the “class clown” of musicals that “wins you over with its own distinctive personality.”

About the Production
The TART production features area actors Joel Domenico as Hunter, Zach Sanders as Jeff, Deva Ozburn as Susan, Amanda Norman as Heidi, and Gregory Smith as Larry. The show was directed by TART Artistic Director Jen Tidwell, with musical direction by Gregory Smith and choreography by Kendra Pierce.

Three Viewings Opens at Tacoma Actors Repertory Theatre
Inaugural Weekend $10 Tickets Through October 10

Performances Run Through November 7

A funeral director, a thief and a widow – these are the characters you’ll meet in Three Viewings, the inaugural play of Tacoma’s newest theater, Tacoma Actors Repertory Theatre (TART for short). Three Viewings was written by renowned playwright and screenwriter Jeffrey Hatcher. A writer who enjoys mystery, Hatcher is just the playwright for the Halloween season. He wrote the screenplay for the recently released film Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellan, and the book for the brand new musical theater mystery Glensheen, which just opened at the Great American History Theatre, in St. Paul, MN.

About the Play
Through three intertwining monologues Three Viewings explores themes of love and death and obsession. Deftly told with equal measures of humor and pathos, the monologues paint a picture of three people each coming to terms with what it means to be the one left behind. Variety described the monologues as “Beautifully spun tales.” New York Magazine called the play “essential viewing.”

Three Viewings is directed by TART Artistic Director Jen Tidwell and features area actors Richard Arum, Hollis Heron, and Gretchen Douma as the funeral director, the thief and the widow, respectively. Three Viewings runs through November 7 on a rotating schedule with the musical comedy [title of show] which opens on October 14.
